Charles Allison grew up as the son of an Army chaplain, moving every three years to places all over the world. He found his first musical loves listening to his brother’s new wave records and found punk rock in his teens.  Throughout the years, Charles went on to expand his musical proclivities beyond any prescribed genre or style.

Charles played in bands growing up but soon realized he wanted to produce more music than he was able to at the mercy of other players' schedules, so Kil Howlie Day was born in 1996. This was primarily a quirky bedroom electronic project that incorporated Matt Turnure on drums and Jeremy Carriger on bass for live shows. Charles started making records under his own name in 2002 and later full band incarnations like Land Camera and Okinawa became more collaborative full band projects.

Over the years Charles organically began producing records for others and has recorded, mixed and mastered records for hundreds of bands and artists. Charles now works as a freelance recording engineer from his own Spanner Sound studio and also served as the Engineer/Instructor for The Studio at the Chattanooga Public Library from 2018-2019 and was the chief engineer for the WUTC/NPR program “Live in the library”, which features live sets from up and coming bands.
